Investigating Atheism
The current polarised nature of the 'new atheism' debate, generated by books like Richard Dawkins' The God Delusion (2006) often discourages serious discussion of the very issues that the 'new atheists' have brought so forcibly to the attention of the public.
The purpose of this site is to set these contemporary 'God Wars' in their historical context, and to offer a range of perspectives (from all sides) on the chief issues raised by the 'new atheists'. We hope this will encourage more informed opinion about the issues, discourage oversimplification of the debate, and deepen the interest in the subject.
Esalen Institute
Esalen Institute is a center to explore work in the humanities and sciences that promotes human values and potentials. The Institute exists to sponsor, encourage, and attempt evaluation of work in these areas, both inside and outside our own organizational framework. Esalen's activities consist of public seminars, residential work-study programs, invitational conferences, research, and semi-autonomous projects.
